Shabbat — We are a Shomer Shabbat program. While we respect and cherish individual family customs, we have a uniform and halachic standard of observance. Every student is expected to attend Shabbat Tefilah services, led by our rabbi, counselors and students. During the afternoon, students can participate in a wide variety of Shabbat-appropriate activities. Discussion and learning groups are held on various topics.
Kashrut — Our dining facilities are Glatt Kosher under orthodox rabbinical supervision and meals are prepared by chefs from the Hillel at the University of Pennsylvania. When meat is served, a vegetarian alternative is always available. Our catered Shabbat dinner is a highlight of the week.
Tefilah — Daily minyanim are held in our Beit Knesset. Tefilah is attended two times a day by all students and staff.
Torah Study — Throughout the week, students put their activities aside to take part in Torah discussion and seminars moderated by our rabbi and staff. The areas of study are chosen to address subjects of interest and concern to our community.
Students participate in projects to strengthen their connection with both the local and Israeli Jewish communities. Our Chesed/Mitzvah program allows students to make a contribution through hands-on service, learning and advocacy. Past activities have included making care packages for Israeli soldiers, delivering food to the elderly, and giving dramatic performances for young children.
Yesh Shabbat features separate instructional and residential counseling staffs. The counseling staff consists mostly of college juniors, seniors and recent graduates. A low student-to-counselor ratio ensures each student is well cared for at all times. Our instructors and coaches are career educators who have devoted their professional lives to the educational, emotional and social development of children in schools and camps.
